Is Your Organisation Truly Prepared for a Major Incident?
Preparedness is more than having an emergency plan.

Preparedness is more than having an emergency plan.
Many organisations have comprehensive emergency response and crisis management plans. However, the existence of these documents does not necessarily demonstrate that an organisation is ready to manage a major incident.
The real test of preparedness is whether people understand their responsibilities, leadership teams can make informed decisions under pressure, and operational arrangements function effectively when circumstances become challenging.
Major incidents rarely unfold exactly as anticipated. Information may be incomplete, resources constrained and decisions required before the full consequences are understood.
Organisations should regularly challenge themselves with three fundamental questions:
- Can we recognise and escalate a developing incident quickly?
- Are our response and crisis management teams competent, equipped and regularly exercised?
- Can we demonstrate that our arrangements will work under realistic conditions?
Independent readiness assessments help identify vulnerabilities that routine internal reviews may overlook.
At Northstar Strategic Group, we believe effective preparedness must be demonstrated, not simply documented.
